Onam Celebration @ Appankappu Colony Tribal Settlement

The Department of Sociology celebrated Onam 2026 on 22 August at Appankappu Colony, Nilambur.
The programme, “ഒപ്പരം ഓണവാരം”, was organized in association with the Kerala Forest Department.
Students and faculty joined the tribal community in festive activities, highlighting inclusivity and cultural exchange.
Traditional attire, vibrant Pookalam, and cultural performances enriched the celebration.
The collaboration emphasised the importance of preserving heritage and fostering community ties.
Joyful participation, music, and shared meals created a warm atmosphere.

Humepenthe 2026

“Be Someone’s Humepenthe.”

The intra-departmental writing competition organised by the Zylith Association of Sociology was held on 19 August 2026.
The event was themed around World Humanitarian Day with the slogan “Be Someone’s Humepenthe.”

Students of the Department of Sociology actively participated, sharing heartfelt memories and character sketches.
The competition created a platform for empathy, compassion, and creative expression.
Faculty members appreciated the originality and depth reflected in the writings.
Exciting prizes were announced, adding enthusiasm and motivation among participants.
Overall, the programme successfully inspired students to value humanitarian ideals and showcased their literary talents.

Zylith Association Inauguration 26

The Zylith Induction Programme was successfully conducted on 10 August 2026 at Najath College of Science and Technology. The event began with a prayer by Reema Riyas and Zuhra, followed by a welcome speech from Muhammed Shibil V.P., President of the Zylith Association of Sociology. Mubashir K, HoD and Zylith Coordinator, delivered the presidential address. The programme was inaugurated by Principal Dr. Abdul Jaleel O., who also inspired the gathering with his remarks. The keynote address was delivered by Abdul Wasih Kattikulangara, adding academic depth to the occasion. Reema Riyas P, General Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks. The afternoon session featured vibrant cultural programmes, making the induction both informative and celebratory.

Day Against Child Labour – Short Film & Sensitisation Programme

Day Against Child Labour Programme 

The Zylith Association of Sociology, NCST Karuvarakundu, organized short films presentation and sensitization programme on Day Against Child Labour on 12 June 2026 at the Seminar Hall.

The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Muhammed Kunhu M.K., Vice Principal.

As part of the event, short films featuring Kavi and Anooja were screened, highlighting the importance of protecting childhood and raising awareness about child labour.

The initiative successfully conveyed the message: “Children are the future—don’t rob them of their childhood.”

The Department of Sociology successfully inaugurated its student association, ZYLITH, on 23 December 2025. The event commenced with a warm welcome by Mohammed Nijad U, President of ZYLITH, followed by the Presidential Address delivered by Nishana E P, Coordinator and Head of the Department.

The Inaugural Address was presented by Muhammed Kunhu MK, Vice Principal, who emphasised the importance of student-led initiatives in shaping academic culture and civic engagement.

The Keynote Address was delivered by Mr Nithin Raj P K, NSS Program Officer and Assistant Professor at MES Arts and Science College, Perinthalmanna, who inspired students to embrace social responsibility and collaborative learning.

The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks by Shafin K, General Secretary of ZYLITH.

The inauguration marked a vibrant beginning for ZYLITH, setting the tone for a year of meaningful student engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Tribal Visit 2025

Post Visit Report: Tribal Exposure Programme – BA Sociology

On 24 October 2025, theV Semester BA Sociology students of NCST Karuvarakundu embarked on an insightful field visit to Nedungayam, Nilambur, as part of their academic curriculum.
The tribal exposure programme was designed to deepen students’ understanding of indigenous communities through direct engagement and observation.

Guided by faculty members Nishana and Mubashir, the visit offered a rich learning experience that bridged theoretical knowledge with practical exposure. Students explored tribal social structures, cultural practices, and environmental contexts, enhancing their awareness of social status and diversity.

The programme also fostered key academic and interpersonal skills, including:

• Critical thinking and cultural sensitivity

• Research aptitude and field documentation

• Teamwork and social interaction

This immersive experience not only strengthened students’ sociological perspectives but also encouraged reflective learning and collaborative inquiry.

Unmute Yourself

Department of Sociology to Host Workshop on ‘Unmute Yourself: Speak With Confidence’

The Department of Sociology is set to organize a workshop titled ‘Unmute Yourself: Speak With Confidence’, a specialised programme aimed at enhancing the communication skills of department students.

The workshop is scheduled for April 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the Seminar Hall.RP, Prof. Abdula Vasih, will lead this interactive session, who will provide expert guidance on effective speaking techniques, confidence-building strategies, and overcoming communication barriers.

Through engaging discussions and practical exercises, students will gain valuable skills to articulate their thoughts clearly and confidently in academic and professional settings.

The department encourages active participation from students to make the most of this opportunity.
