The Debate Club

The debate club at the college helps the students develop their communicative skills, personality, confidence and leadership skills. The club contributes to raising awareness among the students about current affairs and equips them to express their opinions about social concerns. The club conducts tutorials to train the students in communicative skills, with special reference to the art of debating. The programmes will be designed in such a way that it enhances their language skills and trains them how to use language in real-life situations. The club would make the students realize the importance of knowing before arguing. They will also become aware of the importance of having an independent perspective and the significance of critical thinking as an important tool of knowledge.

Objectives

• To boost students’ investigations of community and social issues
• To create educational opportunities for all students on campus
• To provide a vehicle for students interested in politics, social change, and community organizers to discuss relevant topics and ideas.
• To improve Students' personal and professional attributes and skills.
• To increase the confidence and proficiency of students in public speaking
• To develop their analytical and critical thinking capabilities, and by extension, improve their debating skills
• To keep students abreast of current affairs and issues of social relevance
